How to use cheats in The Sims 4

The console has to be opened and cheats enabled every time you start the game. It takes ten seconds, and it’s below for every platform.
STEP 1

Open the console

The console appears in the top left corner of the screen. Close it again with Esc.

Windows

CtrlShiftC
On laptops with an Fn key you may need to hold Fn as well.

Mac

CmdShiftC
If the shortcut doesn’t work, try Ctrl instead of Cmd.

PlayStation

L1L2R1R2
Hold all four shoulder buttons at the same time.

Xbox

LBLTRBRT
Hold all four shoulder buttons at the same time.
STEP 2

Enable cheats

Type the line into the console and press Enter. Only then will the rest of the codes on this site work. Click the line to copy it.
Note: once cheats are enabled in a save, you can no longer earn achievements in that save. If you want to keep them, build in a copy.
STEP 3

Paste the code

Find the code on this site, click the dark line, and it goes to your clipboard. Paste it into the console with CtrlV and press Enter.

If something doesn't work

On laptops the Fn key often has to be held with the shortcut. If you run the game in windowed mode, click inside the game window first so the keyboard goes to the game.

Check that you typed testingcheats true first. It has to be entered every time the game starts — the console doesn’t remember it between sessions.

Skill and trait codes apply to the Sim selected at the bottom of the screen. Select the right Sim before entering the code.

The shift-click menu needs cheats to be enabled. Enter the command in step 2 again and try once more.

Codes can change when the game updates. Every code here carries a game version, and if it’s older than yours it’s flagged for re-checking. Tell us if you find a dead one.
